The Columbia Museum of Art and the South Carolina State Museum, two of Columbia's most significant cultural institution, opened their doors to Soda City Films for a promotional video shoot. Service: destination video, one full day at both museums back to back. The resulting video is designed to show locals and visitors what a great day in Columbia actually looks like.
Some days the assignment is just "go have fun and bring the cameras." This was one of those days. We hit two of Columbia's great cultural institutions back-to-back — the Columbia Museum of Art in the morning, the South Carolina State Museum in the afternoon — and tried to capture what it actually feels like to spend an unhurried day at both.
We started at the Columbia Museum of Art on Main Street. The light through that atrium is unreal. We wandered the galleries, caught a few visitors (sike, they are talent) slowing down in front of pieces they clearly didn't expect to love, and grabbed enough B-roll to make even the modern art look approachable. (Which, honestly, it is. Just go.)
From there it was a quick hop across town to the South Carolina State Museum — four floors of South Carolina history, science, art, and the kind of stuff that makes a 9-year-old's brain catch fire. Dinosaurs. A planetarium. A 4D theater. An observatory. The Apollo memorabilia. Seriously, my son is 8 right now and this place is kid crack. Can we say crack? We covered as much as a day will allow, which is to say: not nearly all of it. You'll want a return trip. If you've lived in Columbia for years and somehow haven't been to either of these, then consider this a gentle nudge. Pack a lunch (or eat at the cafe), bring your kids (or someone elses, with permission of course), and make a whole day of it. We did, and it was easily one of our favorite shoots of the year.
Big thanks to the Columbia Museum of Art and the South Carolina State Museum for opening their doors to us. If you run a museum, gallery, attraction, or destination in the Midlands and want a film that makes people actually want to come visit, we'd love to talk. Just to shoehorn this in there: Soda City Films is a Gold ADDY-winning production company based in Columbia, SC, with over 15 years of experience in brand, destination, and promotional video. #ColumbiaMuseumOfArt #SCStateMuseum #ColumbiaSC #SodaCity #SodaCityFilms #MidlandsSC #ThingsToDoColumbiaSC#MuseumsOfColumbia #VisitColumbia #SouthCarolina #VideoProduction #DestinationVideo #ArtAndCulture #FamilyDayOut#MainStreetColumbia
